Are you a Mechanical Engineer who wants to be a "big fish in a small pond" and be an integral part of small and innovative entrepreneurial company?  Are you a Mechanical Engineer who wants to be part of the engineering team that is developing customized products for customers such as General Electric and Universal Studios??  If you can answer "yes" to these questions, you should consider this opportunity.

Our client offers full service product development or an a la carte delivery of services that best complement its customer's capabilities which include product design, 3D modeling/rapid prototyping, analysis and testing, and manufacturing.  Much of our client's work is for very customized solutions and small lot runs, but current business includes repeated production for a customized product.  In your role as a Mechanical Engineer, you will join two other Mechanical Engineers to use specifications, standards, and knowledge of mechanical processes to design functional mechanical products suitable for manufacturing.  You will design architectural, industrial, and commercial lighting fixtures, and you will follow your products through "from cradle to grave."  You will report to a Lead Mechanical Engineer.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will:
  • Work with the engineering team to generate specifications for products based on the customers' requirements
  • Develop mechanical and electromechanical products to specification
  • Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products
  • Develop basic electrical schematics and basic PCB layouts with vendors
  • Provide direction and advice in terms of manufacturability, dimensioning, and creating tolerances for products
  • Confirm product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods
  • Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods and testing finished products
  • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintain quality systems, procedures, and quality records
  • Follow product from conception to manufacturing
As a Mechanical Engineer your background must include:
  • BSME preferred. ASME may be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of product design experience.  Experience with a lighting product a plus.
  • Well versed in Solidworks
  • Strong understanding of the material properties and characteristics, preferably those properties in aluminum and ideally a strong understanding of the material behavior during the machining process
  • Solid experience designing mechanical parts
  • Knowledge of different manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, and bending
  • Capable of managing a database of parts and drawings, as well as systematically applying revisions
  • ISO 9001 experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with CAD/CAM processes through SolidCAM, MasterCAM or a similar software
  • Familiarity with CFD and FEA software preferred
  • Passion for new product development and problem solving
  • Energetic personality that promotes teamwork and knowledge sharing
  • Willingness to learn new skills such as optical design and electrical design
  • Willingness to work with basic programming software preferred
Our client is seeking local/commutable candidates as there is no relocation offered.
